CD Projekt Red and Netflix announced that they are premiering a new anime in 2022 called Cyberpunk Edgerunners and they are working on it with the highly-acclaimed animation studio Studio Trigger, who you may already know from their work on anime like Kill la Kill, Darling in the Franxx, which is getting an omnibus print release in 2022, Promare, and more.
While we are slightly concerned that Cyberpunk Edgerunners is going to be a Netflix exclusive, we are still hopeful for this series, especially given the incredible team that’s behind its production. Netflix have been successful in the past with Dorohedoro and The Great Pretender, two of the best anime that released in 2020, but also BNA: Brand New Animal that Studio Trigger worked on as well.
With that all said, here are all of the details we know about the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime so far!

What is the synopsis of Cyberpunk Edgerunners?
Cyberpunk Edgerunners as stated by Saya Elder, the Japan-based producer for the series, will be “a standalone story set in the same universe. The stage is still Night City, but everything else is totally new. New characters, new story”.
It was further stated on Cyberpunk 2077‘s site that the anime tells a 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
Who are the team and studio behind Cyberpunk Edgerunners?
Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare) will direct the series along with assistant director Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare), creative director Hiromi Wakabayashi (Kill la Kill), character designers Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal) and Yuto Kaneko (Little Witch Academia).
The adapted screenplay is by Yoshiki Usa (SSSS.GRIDMAN, Promare) and Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare) and the original score is composed by Akira Yamaoka, who you may know from he Silent Hill series.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners Release Date
Cyberpunk Edgerunners is releasing on September 13, 2022 on Netflix as confirmed by the new trailer. We will continue to update this post as we learn more!
