The official Twitter for Jordan as well as Zion Williamson, forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, teased an upcoming Jordan Naruto collaboration along with an image of Naruto passing the Rasengan through his legs as if it were a basketball. Nike have collaborated with anime and manga in the past. Most recently on the Nike Gundam SB Dunk High, which I absolutely love, and I am excited that more are being announced.
Later on, we learned that not one, but three different colorways of the Naruto Jordan Zion 1 will be releasing; Two inspired by Naruto Uzumaki, one of him in Six Paths Sage Mode form and another of him in his four-tailed form, and one inspired by Madara Uchiha.
The main connection these sneakers have with the anime are their colorways. The Six Paths Sage Mode Jordan Zion 1 are orange and yellow, the Jordan Zion 1 inspired by Naruto in his four-tailed form are black and red, and the Madara Uchiha Jordan Zion 1 are white, black, and red.
They also added details to each sneaker in the Naruto Jordan Zion 1 collaboration that are symbolic of the characters, like the black circle seen on Naruto’s outfit in Six Paths Sage Mode, Madara’s Rinne Sharingan, Naruto’s seal, as well as red wisps that resemble Naruto’s Demon Fox Cloak.
As to what I think about the Naruto Jordan Zion 1, they are somewhat light on the nods to the anime, which some may or may not like. Off first glance, they don’t really look like Naruto sneakers, but more so sneakers with a few Naruto easter eggs added to them.
If you are looking for sneakers that are anime-inspired but don’t necessarily scream anime, you may enjoy these. But if you are looking for something more in-your-face yet still clean, which is what I tend to gravitate towards, check out the Nike Gundam collaboration, which I reviewed on my YouTube channel. Regardless of what I think about this particular collaboration though, it’s exciting to see that more anime collaborations are coming from Nike and I hope more are on the way.
Each sneaker in the Naruto Jordan Zion 1 collaboration is retailing at $130 USD and they are expected to release soon. As more details are revealed, we will update this post.
