A new Nintendo Direct event is underway and a number of new and exciting games coming to Nintendo Switch have been announced. In this post, I’ve compiled every single game or update that was announced at the event, so you can see all of the Nintendo Direct June 2023 reveals in one place.
I’ve highlighted the ones I’m most excited about, but have included all of the announcements made at Nintendo Direct June 2023 below also! I will continue to update this post over the course of the event, so stay tuned for updates.
A new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC titled The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero
An upcoming DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet titled The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is releasing in two parts, “The Teal Mask” and “The Indigo Disc”. “The Teal Mask” is planned for release in the Fall of 2023 and “The Indigo Disc” is planned for release in the Winter of 2023. The expansion is being released in two parts, but it tells a continuous story.
The first part, “The Teal Mask”, takes part in Kitakami, where you’ll meet Carmine and Kieran. You’ll experience the Festival of Masks and be introduced to the Loyal Three, Pokémon that is said to have protected the land from an evil ogre. In Part 2, “The Indigo Disc”, you’ll travel to Blueberry Academy, a sister school of your academy, and meet Cyrano and Lacey. At Blueberry Academy, they have their very own Terrarium that’s full of all kinds of Pokémon from Seel to Zebstrika.
It is important to note that you can’t begin the story of Part 1: The Teal Mask until you have begun your Treasure Hunt in Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet and you won’t be able to play Part 2: The Indigo Disk until you have completed Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet and completed Part 1: The Teal Mask.
Sonic Super Stars Previewed, Local Co-op revealed
The brand new 2D side-scrolling game, Sonic Super Stars, was previewed at Nintendo Direct 2023. It features 12 brand-new zones and you’ll be able to play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy and utilize all of their unique abilities. It was confirmed as well that 4-player local co-op will be available in this game.
Sonic Super Stars is expected to release in the Fall of 2023.
A free-to-play Adventure Sim titled Palia
Palia, a free-to-play Adventure Sim game developed by Singularity 6, where you’ll create your idyllic life alongside other players as well as NPCs, was previewed at Nintendo Direct 2023. In the game, you’ll be able to build your ideal home, farm, cook, fish, explore outside the village, and more. Palia is expected to arrive to the Nintendo Switch in Holiday 2023.
Persona 5 Tactica is coming to Switch
Persona 5 Tactica, a tactical spin-off of Persona 5, was first announced by Xbox alongside the reveal of two new Atlus projects, Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor Re:Fantazio. While it hasn’t been confirmed yet that Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor Re:Fantazio are coming to Switch, it was revealed that Persona 5 Tactica is coming to the console on November 17, 2023. Preorders for the game are being taken now according to Nintendo.
A new fantasy rogue-like game MythForce
MythForce, a first-person rogue-like game developed by Aspyr, was previewed at Nintendo Direct in June 2023. It features a nostalgic 80’s aesthetic and it’s inspired by series like He-Man and Thundercats. Set in a fantasy world, you, along with your comrades, will take on the powers of evil in dungeons or the ever-changing Castle of Evil. You can play MythForce solo or you can play it in co-op mode, which supports up to 4 players.
MythForce launches on Nintendo Switch at a TBD date in 2023.
A new Detective Pikachu sequel titled Detective Pikachu Returns
A sequel to Detective Pikachu titled Detective Pikachu Returns was announced at Nintendo Direct in June 2023. Detective Pikachu was released on the Nintendo 3DS. The story of the first game follows a Pikachu that claims he’s an incredible detective, and Tim Goodman, a boy who is able to understand everything he is saying. Together they make for a top-notch detective team. The second game sees them taking on a number of new cases.
Detective Pikachu 2 is going to be released exclusively on Nintendo Switch and it is arriving on the console on October 6, 2023.
Super Mario RPG Remake, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, New Princess Peach Game
A long-awaited remake of Super Mario RPG, which was originally released on the SNES, is coming to Nintendo Switch. This is the first Mario RPG to ever be released and it is being remade with updated graphics. It is expected to release on November 17, 2023, and preorders for the game are being taken now on the Nintendo eShop.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which is a new 2D Mario side-scrolling game, was also announced for release on Nintendo Switch on October 20, 2023. It has something called Wonder Flowers in it, which cause unexpected things to happen.
In addition, we are getting a brand new game that’s centered around Princess Peach. Little details were revealed about the upcoming game, but they mentioned in the video that more information is coming soon. We do know, though, that it is expected to arrive on the console in 2024.
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon Remaster
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, which was first released on Nintendo 3DS, is getting a remaster on Nintendo Switch. It is expected to arrive on the console in 2024.
Batman Arkham Trilogy coming to Switch in Fall 2023
Batman Arkham Trilogy, which collects Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight, as well as all DLCs, is releasing in the Fall of 2023 on Nintendo Switch.
Action RPG Silent Hope coming to Switch in October
A new action RPG XSEED game titled Silent Hope is coming to the Nintendo Switch on October 3, 2023. In the game, you will clear dungeons and fight monsters in a place called the Abyss. After, you will return to base camp to make use of the materials and items you’ve collected.
New Dragon Quest Monsters Game, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince
A new Dragon Quest Monsters game, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, is arriving on Switch on December 1, 2023. The game follows Psaro, who is cursed and unable to harm monsters. In the game, you play as Psaro, become a Monster Wrangler, and search for monsters to create an army for battle.
An exciting feature of this game is synthesis, which allows you to combine two monsters to create an even stronger one. Your quest takes you through a number of wondrous and exciting regions, including rivers of bubbling lava, mysterious ancient ruins, and soaring towers of cake. You meet a number of new allies that embark on the journey with you, including a kind-hearted elf named Rose.
Pikmin 4 gameplay previewed, Pikmin 1 & 2 HD Versions revealed
At Nintendo Direct in June 2023, Nintendo previewed the gameplay of Pikmin 4. One of the biggest highlights from the trailer is that you’ll be able to go out on expeditions at night in the game, which is a first for a Pikmin game. Pikmin 4 is releasing on July 21, 2023, and you can preorder the game now. If you aren’t sure if you want to pick the game up, a demo will be released on the eShop on June 28, 2023.
In addition, Nintendo announced that HD versions of Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 are coming to the Nintendo Switch. Both games were originally released on GameCube and the HD versions will be arriving on the Nintendo eShop today.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1
Konami is releasing Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 on Nintendo Switch. It collects Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as well as Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and the NES versions of Metal Gear and Snake’s Revenge.
In addition, this collection comes with the digital Metal Gear Solid graphic novel and its sequel, strategy guides for each guide, and a digital soundtrack. The first three Metal Gear Solid games can be bought separately or in the collection pack. The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is releasing on October 24, 2023.
The roguelike shoot ’em up, Vampire Survivors, is coming to Switch. Its description on the Nintendo eShop is as follows: “Hell is empty, the devils are here, and there’s no place to run or hide. All you can do is survive as long as you can until death inevitably puts an end to your struggles. Gather gold in each run to buy upgrades and help the next survivor.”
Vampire Survivors is releasing on August 17, 2023, on Switch. You can play the game solo or you can play local co-op with up to 4 players.
Star Ocean: The Second Story Remake
Square Enix is releasing a remake of the sci-fi action RPG Star Ocean: The Second Story titled Star Ocean: The Second Story R on Nintendo Switch. In this game, Claude is stranded on an undeveloped planet after a mission goes wrong. There he meets Rena, who possesses mystical powers. The two’s fates are intertwined as they find themselves entangled in a mysterious plot. Over the course of your journey, you will meet allies from all walks of life.
You can select either Claude or Rena as your hero. The hero you choose and the choices you make will affect who you can recruit to your party. This remake has new enemies with chain attacks, and as with the original game, it features real-time combat. Star Ocean: The Second Story R is releasing on November 2, 2023.
Also announced was a new Wario Ware game titled Wario Ware Move It!, which has over 200 micro-games and releases on November 3, 2023, Headbangers Rhythm Royale, a rhythm game where you play as a pigeon and play musical mini-games, a new 3D platforming game by the team behind Sonic Mania called Penny’s Big Breakaway, which is releasing in Early 2024, and a Booster Course Pass Wave 5 DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which has a new course called Squeaky Clean Sprint, and new characters, including Petey Piranha and Kamek, and Wiggler.
