Atlus has announced Persona 3 Reload, a faithful remake of the original game, as well as a new RPG titled Metaphor: ReFantazio. Atlus stated that Persona 3 Reload is “a captivating reimagining of the genre-defining RPG, reborn for the modern era.” Not only are we getting updated graphics, but new scenes, character interactions, and additional voiceovers are included as well.
This news comes not shortly after the new release of Persona 3 Portable, a remake of the 2006 game which was released first on PSP and later on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and more platforms on January 19, 2023. Persona 4 Golden was released on the same day as well.
If you are new to Persona 3, the story follows a transfer student, who shortly after entering his new school, Gekkoukan High School, comes face to face with the “Dark Hour.” Strange occurrences begin happening all around him and mysterious monsters called Shadows appear. Along with a group of comrades, you face unexpected challenges and fight foes with the power of your heart, aka your Persona. As with most Persona games, you juggle your daily life, while also fighting against evil powers that lurk in the shadows.
Persona 3 Reload is expected to be released on February 2, 2024, as part of the 2024 Video Game Release Schedule, and it has been confirmed so far for release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Steam. The game will also be arriving on Xbox Game Pass.
In addition to a standard physical release, Atlus has revealed a Persona 3 Reload Aigis Edition, which comes with an artbook, soundtrack, Aigis figure, DLC pack voucher, an exclusive preorder bonus (Persona 4 Golden BGM Set), and a collector’s box.
If you plan to buy the game digitally, there is a Digital Premium Edition, which comes with the full game as well as a digital artbook, digital soundtrack, and a DLC pack voucher, and a Digital Deluxe Edition, which comes with the full game along with a digital artbook and a digital soundtrack. In addition to Persona 3 Reload, Altus also revealed a new fantasy RPG titled Metaphor: ReFantazio, which is made by the creators of Persona 3, 4, and 5.
Directing the game is Katsura Hoshino with character designs by Shigenori Soejima and music by Shoji Meguro. It is expected to be released on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2024.
Set in the tumultuous United Kingdom of Euchronia, chaos erupts in Metaphor: ReFantazio with the king’s assassination, plunging the realm into disarray. As the mysterious Royal Magic is unleashed, a royal tournament ensues, vying for control of the throne. Amidst this turmoil, the protagonist and his fairy companion, Galica, embark on a quest to lift the curse afflicting the presumed deceased prince. Across the sprawling landscape, they journey in search of answers, navigating a world teeming with magic and intrigue.
