In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Type-Moon has released a promotional video on YouTube, announcing the much-anticipated remaster of Fate/stay night. This iconic visual novel is set to make its debut on Switch and Steam in 2024 with official translations in English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese. Originally released in Japan in 2004, the game has seen several fan translations over the years, but 2024 marks the first time it has received an official translation.
Initially released on PC in 2004, a new version of Fate/stay night titled Fate/stay night Réalta Nua was released in 2007 for PlayStation 2, followed by a PlayStation Vita release, exclusively in Japan. This enhanced version, which features the voice actors from the anime, is the version they are remastering for Switch and PC.
At the heart of Fate/stay night is the intense Holy Grail War, a fierce battle royale where seven mages, known as Masters, summon legendary heroes, or Servants, to compete for the Holy Grail. Our protagonist, Shirou Emiya, is unexpectedly drawn into this perilous contest. Alongside his powerful Servant, Saber, Shirou confronts the myriad challenges and dangers of the war. While this forms the central narrative, the story expands across multiple routes, each focusing on different characters and their journeys.
Given its popularity, it was no surprise that Fate/stay night received anime adaptations. The first route was adapted into an anime series in 2006, titled Fate/stay night. The subsequent routes were adapted into Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works and a trilogy of movies titled Heaven’s Feel.
