Bandai Showcase the New PG RX-78-2 Unleashed 2.0

Earlier in the year, a new PG RX-78-2 Gundam Unleashed 2.0 was teased in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Gundam. At their VR presentation event, Bandai Spirits revealed the design of their new PG kit and it went up for preorder today.

Bandai has placed every gimmick and feature they’ve tested over the years into this Perfect Grade. This isn’t a kit that’s meant to be 100% accurate to the original RX-78-2 we see in Mobile Suit Gundam, but is instead a modern highly-detailed take on the classic mobile suit.

As you can see in the gallery from the photo with the 01 on it, it looks like parts of the inner frame are going to come pre-assembled similar to a Real Grade. We will have to wait for more to be released to confirm just how much of it will come pre-assembled. Some may be skeptical about this, but since the kit features three phases just to build the inner frame, I’m not all that concerned about it. I think this will allow the kit to have greater articulation, which is an area in which Real Grade kits excel.

My first impression of this kit is that it has a lot going for it and it looks absolutely amazing. I’m particularly loving the color separation as well as all the bells and whistles that have been added. Given the photos we have now, the pieces of the inner frame are in different shades of gray and peak through the armor in ways that really highlight all the detail that went into designing this kit.

In the photos, you can also see that this kit is a whole new type of Perfect Grade because it has five phases, three of which, as mentioned above, are for the inner frame, the fourth being the armor, and the fifth phase, which features the open-hatch gimmicks of this kit.

As far as LED placements go, it looks like there’s going to be one in the beam saber, the thrusters on the backpack, the chest vents, and as usual, the head. From what we’ve heard thus far, this kit also comes with different lighting modes.

It was confirmed by Gundam Planet that the Perfect Grade Unleashed RX-78-2 kit comes with the following weapons: Beam rifle, 2 beam sabers, 1 LED beam saber, shield. In addition, it also comes with the following: 2 RGB LED units for the chest vents, 4 interchangeable hand parts for each side, the core fighter, pilot figures of Sayla and Amuro, metal parts for the verniers and vulcans, marking seals, etched parts, and more.

The PG RX-78-2 Unleashed 2.0 is slated to to ship out as of now in December 2020 and it is available for preorder on the following trusted sites while supplies last.
