A new Nintendo Direct event is underway and a number of new and exciting games coming to Nintendo Switch have been announced. In this post, I’ve compiled every single game or update that was announced at the event, so you can see all of the Nintendo Direct September 2022 reveals in one place.
I’ve highlighted the ones I’m most excited about, but have included all of the announcements made at Nintendo Direct September 2022 below also! I will continue to update this post over the course of the event, so stay tuned for updates.
Nintendo Direct September 2022
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Developer: Nintendo
Genre(s): Action-adventure
Release date: May 12, 2023
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is releasing on Switch on May 12, 2023. The release date and name for the upcoming sequel were revealed at Nintendo Direct 2022, but we got a small glimpse at the gameplay also.
Not only is it set in the lands of Hyrule, but this continuation also takes you into new heights and up into the skies.
Fire Emblem Engage
Developer: Intelligent Systems
Genre(s): RPG, Strategy
Release date: January 20, 2023
Fire Emblem Engage was revealed at Nintendo Direct September 2022 to be the next game in the Fire Emblem franchise. The new turn-based, tactical battle system features a brand new story and a new cast of characters, but you will be able to team up with the heroes from past Fire Emblem games.
It’s set a thousand years ago, in a time when the four kingdoms and heroes from other worlds fought against the Fell Dragon to seal away its great evil. Now that it has reawakened, you must use your divine dragon powers to collect emblem rings and bring back peace to the Continent of Elyos.
Both a Standard as well as a Collector’s Edition called the Divine Edition, which comes with the game, a steelbook, an artbook, art cards, and a poster, is releasing.
Master Detective Archives Rain Code
Developer: Spike Chunsoft
Genre(s): Adventure
Release date: Spring 2023
Master Detective Archives Rain Code, a new adventure game from the minds of Danganronpa is releasing on Switch in Spring 2023. It features a mysterious and dark fantasy story where you play as Yuna an amnesiac detective in-training as he works to crack unsolved mysteries in a unusual dystopian city that’s engulfed in never-ending rain and is under complete control of a megacorporation.
You’ll travel across the city in search of answers, gathering evidence as well as testimony, to solve mysteries, but gimmicks and traps lie in wait in a place called the Mystery Labyrinth that’s ever-changing. You must uncover the truth in this offbeat puzzle-solving experience.
Master Detective Archives Rain Code is developed by Spike Chunsoft (Steins;Gate, AI: The Somnium Files). The scenario, music, and design are all by Tookyo Games. At Nintendo Direct September 2022 the release date as well as the updated title Master Detective Archives Rain Code were revealed.
Octopath Traveler 2
Developer: Square Enix, ACQUIRE Corp.

Release date: February 24, 2023
Platforms: Switch, PC (Steam), PS5 and PS4
Octopath Traveler 2, a brand new entry and the sequel to Octopath Traveler, was announced at Nintendo Direct September 2022. It will feature the same unique HD-2D graphics that improve on the impressive visual style and mechanics that were present in the first game.
It follows eight new travelers as they embark on their individual journeys in the world of Solistia and venture forth into an exciting new era.
In addition to the standard Switch release, there’s a limited quantity Collector’s Edition available exclusively on the Square Enix store that comes with an art book, a mini OST, and a travelers bust set highlighting each of the 8 main characters.
Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe
Genre(s): Action, Platformer
Release date: February 24, 2023
A release date of February 24, 2023 for Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe was revealed at Nintendo Direct September 2022. The original 2011 game, which released on Wii, is getting a reboot on Switch with a new Deluxe release.
You can play up to four players, use abilities, like the Mecha Copy Ability, and play as other Kirby characters, including King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Bandana Waddle Dee. New subgames were added, like Magolor’s Tome Trackers, in addition to those that were available in the original Wii release, like Samurai Kirby.
In addition to all of of the above announcements, Nintendo revealed that a number of N64 games are headed to Switch sometime in 2022 and 2023, including Goldeneye, which will have online play, Mario Party, Mario Party 2, Mario Party 3, Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Stadium 2, Pilotwings, Excitebike 64, and 1080 Snowboarding.
Also revealed at Nintendo Direct September 2022 was a 2023 release for Pikmin 4, a release date of December 13, 2022 for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, a new DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 that features a new hero named Ino, Splatoon 3’s first Splatfest, which is taking place on September 23-September 25th, a remake for Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life that’s titled Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life that’s slated for Summer 2023 release.
More announcements included Wave 3 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass, a new RPG titled Fae Farm that’s a farm simulator, a new demo for Harvestella, a Western release of Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, a release date of November 4, 2022 for the new co-op adventure game It Takes Two, a 2023 release for Spongebob Squarepants: Cosmic Shake, a November 22, 2022 release for Just Dance 2023, a reboot of Rune Factory 3 as well as news that a new Rune Factory game is in the works, and a new adventure game titled Ib.
