Good Smile Company just recently re-released Dazai Osamu’s Nendoroid, and I just received him in the mail today. As of now, few figures from Bungo Stray Dogs have been released, so I was happy to finally add him, along with Atsushi and Akutagawa, to the collection!

For those of you who have yet to purchase yours or are still questioning whether you want to add him to your collection, I did a quick review and took some pictures of him in his various poses to give you an idea as to whether or not this one is worth picking up.

As I’ve mentioned before, the only issue I’ve ever had with Nendoroids is the occasional fit error here and there; In addition, some are finicky to pose. Other than that, though, I’ve found their quality to be great, but this can vary from Nendoroid to Nendoroid. With that said, I’ll talk about my thoughts on this Nendoroid in the following areas: Accessories, quality, and posing.

Accessories

As far as accessories go, Dazai’s Nendoroid came with various options that allowed you to not only showcase his complex personality, but they also included parts to recreate his No Longer Human ability. As usual, he comes with the standard three face plates, each featuring a different expression (A standard expression, a grinning expression, and carefree expression).

It’s always hard to tell what Dazai is up to, one minute he’s serious, the other he goofy and dramatic. The poses they chose to include, as well as the expressions, really highlight all of Dazai’s qualities as both a person and a member of the Armed Detective Agency. There is even a pool of water you can place his feet in, so you can display him doing one of his favorite past times: Trying to drown himself. This added touch really helps encapsulate Dazai’s full personality and his fascination with the macabre.

In regards to his likeness, Good Smile Company did an amazing job with this one. He is in the Nendoroid chibi-ish style, but they maintained the look and charm of Dazai. Everything from his clothes, including his trench coat that always appears to be slightly flying in the wind and his belt loops that are always untied, to his hair is done extremely well.

Quality

I have no issues with Dazai’s Nendoroid in terms of quality. The paint is done extremely well, and the coloring is accurate to that which we’ve seen in the anime.

I fortunately did not have any fit issues with this Nendoroid, which is something I don’t experience often. This can vary from Nendoroid to Nendoroid, but I personally was pleased with how everything fit and how easy he was to get him into his various poses.

Posing

As mentioned above, Dazai was easy to get into all of his poses. As far as the variety of poses go, Dazai isn’t an extremely flashy character in terms of action poses, so I understand why his poses all show him standing. With that being said, you will have to make few changes, maybe a leg or arm here or there, to get him into all of the poses featured on the box or in the instruction manual.

I really appreciate that they added extra accessories, like hands and a book that allowed you to further vary his poses. There’s even one that shows him cheekily hiding behind the book. As far as the expressions go, there are a few that are fun to pose next to Atsushi and Akutagawa. I have Chuya’s Nendoroid on preorder, so I can’t wait to pose them together in the future as well. That interaction is an added bonus to buying all of the Bungo Stray Dogs Nendoroids they’ve released thus far.

The only thing I wish is that they would have added more showcasing Dazai’s mysterious side; There is a more sadistic side to him that I would have liked to see them explore more, but that’s just me nit-picking, because this Nendoroid has few, if any, flaws. You can check out all of his various poses in the gallery below!
