It was announced by Kodansha that an anime adaptation of Witch Hat Atelier, a fantasy manga by Kamome Shirahama, is on the way. The Witch Hat Atelier manga is one of my favorites.
Kamome Shirahama has a beautiful art style, but she is a great storyteller as well, so I’m looking forward to seeing this one adapted. You may have also seen her work in the comic book industry. She’s created cover art for series, such as Star Wars: Doctor Aphra and Batgirl and the Birds of Prey.

What is Witch Hat Atelier about?
If you are new to Witch Hat Atelier, the story is set in a world where everyone takes wonders like magic spells and dragons for granted except for a girl named Coco, who longs to be a witch. But magicians aren’t made, they are born, and Coco was not born with a gift for magic. Struck down by reality, Coco gives up on her dream. That is until she meets Qifrey, a mysterious, traveling magician.
After secretly seeing Qifrey perform magic in a way she’s never seen before, Coco soon learns what everybody “knows” might not be the truth. Her magical dream may not be as far away as it may seem.
Witch Hat Atelier Background
Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama was first released as a manga in Japan in 2016, but it wasn’t translated into English until 2019.
Witch Hat Atelier is currently being released with an English translation by Kodansha. I highly recommend checking out the manga if you have yet to do so. The world is unique and interesting, the characters are compelling, and the artwork is stunning.
If you are looking to get into more series by Kamome Shirahama, her manga Eniale & Dewiela, which is a mythological comedy, was also translated into English by Yen Press.
Witch Hat Atelier Anime Release Date
As of now, a release date for the upcoming Witch Hat Atelier anime has yet to be confirmed. We will keep you posted as more information is revealed!
An official website for the anime is live and a promo video was released, but few details about the upcoming Witch Hat Atelier anime, such as release date and staff, have yet to be revealed. We will update this post as soon as we learn more!
