Seven Seas latest manga license announcement, Homunculus by Hideo Yamamoto, is one of the most exciting of 2022. Not only is it one of the most long-awaited titles and most wished-for series for English release, but it is also one of the best completed horror manga of all time.
Seven Seas is releasing Homunculus with English translation in an oversized, large-trim paperback omnibus format. Five omnibuses, which collect all 17 volumes of the series, will be released in total.
The story of Homunculus follows Susumu Nakoshi. One day he’s in a lavish hotel, the next he’s living in his car. He is approached by the mysterious Manabu Ito, a 22-year-old medical student, who says he’s a perfect candidate for his experiment. He initially rejects his offer, but later accepts it when his car is towed and is in need of cash.
In exchange for 700,000 yen, Nakoshi lets Ito drill a hole into his skull via a method called trepanation. At first, everything seems normal for Nakoshi following this experimental surgery, but this all changes when the effects kick in and he begins seeing the homunculus in every person.
The first Homunculus omnibus, which collects volumes 1-2, is expected to be released on June 27, 2023, for $27.99 USD or $35.99 CAN. I can’t wait to finally pick up the series and I hope to see more incredible horror manga license announcements, like this one, in the future!
In addition to Homunculus, Seven Seas announced that they’ll be releasing Soara and the House of Monsters by Hidenori Yamaji, The Knight Captain is the New Princess-to-Be by Yasuko Yamaru, Cat on the Hero’s Lap by Kosuke Iijima and Shiori, and Life with an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout by Yu Tsurusaki and Shin Ikezawa with English translation as well.
