25 years after the release of the original Trigun anime, Crunchyroll have revealed a new Trigun anime project titled Trigun Stampede that is set to release in the 2023 anime season. The official Twitter account announced the series along with the comment that "Trigun will be reborn".

Trigun, a sci-fi manga classic by Yasuhiro Nightow, began releasing in Japan in the 90's, but it wasn't until 2003 that it would be released by Dark Horse with English translation. This would be the first time that the world would be introduced to the futuristic, western world of Trigun and its MC, Vash. It's sequel Trigun Maximum followed and it earned even more praise than its predecessor.

Trigun is set in the desert world of Gunsmoke, where a mysterious bounty hangs above the head of Vash the Stampede. His guns can pierce a planet, which explains why the locals tremble at the very mention of his name. The reward for his capture or assassination is sixty billion double dollars; Every trigger-happy psycho in creation is aiming to claim Vash dead or alive.

Trigun was adapted into an anime in 1998 with animation by Madhouse, who later went on to animate titles like One Punch Man, Death Note, and Death Parade to name a few. The anime is still loved to this day, and for good reason. Despite its age, the battles are well animated and they did an incredible job at bringing the world and characters of Trigun to life. Still, news of a new Trigun anime is incredible, because many, including myself, have long-awaited a reboot or modern remake of Trigun. To have more Trigun on the way in 2023 is not only a surprise, but an absolute dream.

Animating the upcoming anime are Orange, who you may know for their work on anime like Beastars, which is one of the best anime on Netflix, and Land of the Lustrous. For those of you who may be concerned about their use of CGI, I can tell you that they are one of the studios that have changed my mind on CGI being used in anime. They are absolutely incredible at what they do and I can't wait to see how they breathe new life into Trigun. The series is coming to Crunchyroll's platform in 2023.

More details about Trigun Stampede are going to be announced at Anime Expo 2022. We will update this post as more information about the series is revealed. I am excited for new generations, who may have missed out on the original series, to get a chance to experience Trigun. I have hopes too that this news will bring more exposure to the original anime and manga, because they definitely deserve it!
