An upcoming Oshi no Ko anime adapting Aka Akasaka, who also created Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, and Mengo Yokoyari’s, who also created Scum’s Wish, manga of the same name is confirmed! The manga began releasing in 2020 via Young Jump. Only a few volumes of the series have been released so far, so news of an anime adaptation came fast.
It’s no wonder, though, because Oshi no Ko has been making waves in Japan, and since its digital release on Manga Plus, has been growing in popularity overseas as well. An English print release of Oshi no Ko was also announced by Yen Press at Anime Expo 2022, so this is something to look forward to as well.
Oshi no Ko takes a different look at the world of showbiz and offers a new perspective about what it means to be famous or to be an idol. It follows Goro, an OB-GYN in the countryside that lives a life far removed from stardom, who meets his favorite idol, Ai Hoshino, one day in unexpected circumstances… Ai, who just began her climb to fame, is pregnant, and in order to stay out of the eyes of the press, came to his clinic to have her babies. One thing leads to another, though, and their fates end up becoming intertwined in interesting as well as shocking ways.
The anime is being directed by Daisuke Hiramaki (Selection Project, Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita!) along with assistant director Chao Nekotomi, and character designer Kanna Hirayama (Rent-a-Girlfriend, Selection Project). Animating the anime are Doga Kobo, who animated Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun, Plastic Memories, New Game!!, and Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle to name a few.
Oshi no Ko is one of my favorite new manga to release as of late, so I’m looking forward to seeing its adaptation. You can check out the first teaser visual below! Mengo Yokoyari also drew a special illustration in celebration of the anime.
Oshi no Ko Release Date
It was confirmed at Anime NYC 2022 that Oshi no Ko is releasing in 2023 on HIDIVE. It was later confirmed that Oshi no Ko is airing on April 12, 2023. The first episode is going to be 90-minutes long. We will keep you posted as we learn more!
