When it comes to WCF scale resin statues, G5 Studios is my favorite studio to buy from since they do such a great job on the proportions of these smaller scale pieces. Not to mention, they have a variety of anime series to shop from, including three of my favorites, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, One Piece, and Naruto.
As someone who collects World Collectible Figures (WCFs) from One Piece, I was excited to discover these WCF scale resin statues. If you are wanting to get into buying WCF scale resins, I highly recommend G5 Studios.
I wanted to do a little introduction and review of the studio before getting into the full review so you can get an idea as to the quality and type of products you can expect from them. A lot of G5 Studios' statues look great, but after receiving their WCF scale resin statue of Portgas D. Ace from One Piece, I now have a new favorite.
I’ll be reviewing the G5 Studios Ace statue in the following areas: Shipping and packaging, concept and design, and paint and sculpt. Check out the full review below!
Shipping and Packaging
I ordered my G5 Studios Ace statue from FavorGK and I had yet another positive experience buying from them. As far as shipping goes, I have no complaints, because it arrived on time and all pieces of the statue came undamaged and unscathed. In regards to packaging, the box is really small as expected for a WCF scale statue. All pieces were safely stored in a foam insert inside the box and wrapped in tissue paper for added protection.
I really appreciate these smaller scale statues, because they give me a stress and hassle free experience. And I really need small wins like these, especially since most of my shipments contain larger statues that have a greater risk of coming damaged.
Concept and Design
G5 Studios really went the extra mile on this one. Even though it’s small in scale, it’s large compared to others thanks to the giant fireball they included, which is created when Ace performs his Great Flame Commandment: Flame Emperor technique. Because of this, the overall statue is approximately 20cm or 7.87in tall whereas Ace is only 6cm or 2.36in tall.
The concept of G5 Studios Ace is one of the best I’ve seen for a WCF scale statue. With the elements they added, it looks powerful and makes an impact despite its size and this is largely thanks to the aforementioned fireball. But it's the way that Ace is depicted as if he is floating within the flames and the little details they added, such as the chain and his hat, that makes this one a true joy to look at.
Not only does it showcase Ace’s power, but it also celebrates him as a character as well. The only thing I could say as a possible criticism is that it’s quite top heavy. The base is rather small in comparison to the overall statue, so this is something to keep in mind when moving him. With that said, I actually don’t mind the small base, because it makes the fireball stand out more and makes it look even larger than it is.
Paint and Sculpt
With WCF scale statues, the characters can look either too buff or awkwardly proportioned when done wrong. Luckily, that is not the case here. His proportions look spot on and the overall likeness of Ace is maintained even though he’s only a 2.36in tall.
The sculpt of and the detailing and painting, such as the blood and his freckles, on his face look incredible. With such a small area to work on, I’m impressed by how crisp and clean everything looks, especially in regards to the paint work.
Other details I love about this statue are his red beaded necklace which is not attached, but instead is loose around his neck like a real necklace would be, and his hat, which is incredibly detailed and painted as well.
The clear resin pieces also look great. They are painted in various shades of red, orange, and yellow, which give them the appearance of flames and they are painted and defined in a way that makes it look as if these flames are actually swirling. The smoke pieces added around the fireball are shaded to give them dimension. There’s also a chain, which is painted to have a distressed metal look, that attaches behind the fireball and comes around the front. And finally, the base has a scorched Earth look to it that really ties everything together.
All in all, I’ve always been impressed by G5 Studios quality, but the paint and sculpt of their Ace statue is above and beyond what I’ve seen from them before.
As to whether or not I’d recommend buying the G5 Studios Ace WCF scale statue, the answer is definitely yes. Not only is it easy to display, but they packed a lot of detail within this small scale statue. It’s my favorite statue that G5 Studios has released so far and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in the future!
The G5 Studios Ace statue is currently sold out on the sites I trust, but I highly recommend checking out the other statues they have to offer. If you are wanting to check out more statues from G5 Studios, here are some of their other statues that are currently up for preorder!
