A new Adidas collection celebrating Kazuki Takahashi's Yu-Gi-Oh! is dropping on October 7, 2022 at 10:00 am EDT. Adidas are utilizing two styles for this collection, the ADI2000 and the Reptossage Hook-and-Loop Slides, that were released around the same time (1999-2000) that Yu-Gi-Oh! was airing and the manga was being serialized.
As a child of the 90's, I can say that looking at the style of these sneakers is a welcomed blast from the past, but they represent the era and compliment the series well. Anyone else remember waking up to watch Yu-Gi-Oh! on Kids' WB? Fond memories for sure and these shoes are really giving me nostalgia, but they are also a reminder of the lasting-power of the series, which has been a prevalent force in the anime and manga industries and beyond since the late 90's.
I also want to say that words can't express how grateful I am to Kazuki Takahashi for the incredible world he created. Yu-Gi-Oh! was a big part of my childhood and it's one that's still important to me to this day.
Two colorways of each are releasing that feature different Duel Monsters characters from the series. The ADI2000 is available in either a Cloud White, Cloud White, and Bold Blue colorway that has a graphic of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon on its side and a holographic Millennium Puzzle on its tongue or a Cloud White, Cloud White, and Purple Tint colorway that has a graphic of the Dark Magician on its side and a holographic KaibaCorp logo on its tongue. Both have a mesh upper in addition to suede and leather details and shoelace swap outs that feature the Yu-Gi-Oh! logo. All of the boxes they come in are Yu-Gi-Oh!-themed as well.
The Reptossage Hook-and-Loop Slides highlight graphics and characters from the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game. They are available in a Core Black, Pulse Lilac, Core Black colorway (One slide features Dark Magician and the other features Yami Yugi) or a Core Black, Hazy Sky, Core Black colorway (One slide features the Blue Eyes White Dragon and the other features Seto Kaiba). Both have bright neon TPR footbeds, EVA outsoles and synthetic bandages. All of the boxes they come in are Yu-Gi-Oh!-themed also.
